So tired.

Med skool sucks. 3rd week now and the volume of material I need to learn is ridiculous. Seriously, 32 credit hrs PER semester.

So I am now wearing ceil blue scrubs everyday. At least until the cadaver smells goes away.

2 outfits

So what if I have been stood up? it's okay -- my weekend was brilliant anyway. BBQ, lots of beer, saw 'little shop of horror' musical by an excellent production company. there were other surprises to distract me from a little thing called self-esteem shattered into a million pieces. Okay, I exaggerated. I was more annoyed than anything, but lucky for me, I am independent enough to say 'screw waiting around by the phone, I am going on a fucking hike in a 211 acre park to find peace.'

What I wore to get stood up, say screw it, musical theater, BBQ + beer w/ friends

whoo

The weekend! is here! Where I don't have much to do. Ha.

Today is a Teacher Work Day -- no students on campus. Also no teachers on campus too. Teachers playing hooky. But not me. I'm at the office and had 5 patients today. I imagined the whole school is getting ready for Prom, which takes place tomorrow on a freakin' boat on the san francisco bay. How romantic. How elegant. How so not like my prom at all.

Casual work day -- yeah, I actually wore this because my work place rocks despite being a health center. Professionalism in clothing doesn't mean much here.

Quiet day at work today -- always a good thing? Informed a bunch of teens on confidentiality laws and their rights as teens in the state of California. Then afterward, saw a few patients. It's winding down or appears so right now since ECW (electronic medical records) is down and we are hopeless without working technology. thus, my blog returns early.

After yesterday's victory with public speaking, my confidence was soaring. I went out to $1 sushi night with a group of acquaintances and later headed over a bar. You know when you go to a bar or a club, there's always that girl you kinda envy. The one that's always surrounded by boys and she's laughing and just eschewing confidence and never have to lift a finger to get drinks? THAT WAS ME. And it was awesome. Most people think my quiet demeanor and overall bitchy attitude is a bit snobbish, but really, I'm just shy. It's hard for me to engage in small talks and sometime, I do say things that are insensitive and offensive without realizing it. But last night was so engaging! It felt grrrreat to be the center of attention, for once.

another day

Hi, hi. Back with a quick update. Busy, busy. But this is what I wore to talk to a crowd of 300 teens on teen health services, birth control, and jokes about genital herpes. I would normally wear the purple dress alone, but I didn't feel like showing the kids my goods (or lack of) today and flashing the entire assembly. Was I nervous? Hell yeah. Did I do an amazing job instead? Oh heck yeah. The audience was whooping, whoo-ing, clapping, and I even got a standing ovation at the end. Plus, several pats by teachers of "epic talk"

hmm

Another rainy day, but I don't care. I'll dress how I want and I want to be happy. A situation of the living came up and I'm kinda stressed out about it. Worse case scenario: I don't have a place to live in 10 days. Best case scenario: I'll be roommates with my boss.

Huh.

Wore this outfit when it was sunny out. But not today. Today is soggy, wet, and hard-assy rain. Sleets of rain. Rain, rain, go away. I'm really into stripes and ruffles, so why not combined the best of both worlds? What am I actually wearing today? Sweats. Layers of it. Hoping to hit the outlets once rain stops, but that is mostly not going to happen.

blarg

A bit colder today; rainy too. Wasn't sure what to wear except I wanted to feel a bit more girly and glamorous so the weather can't dampened (pun intended) the day. Editing footage for a video for work -- the teens were very cooperative today!

for lunch? Portobello mushroom burger. Totally veggies. I think I'm becoming somewhat of a half-vegetarian lately. I just don't feel like eating meat (...half the time)

A bit warm out today -- 50s in the morning, but low 70s in the afternoon. Of course took full advantage of the spring weather by donning the shorts. Some disappointment with work -- this week was slow. I'm so use to being active and busy, and then comes a slow week and nothing went right, so meh. Glad it's Friday, but dreading the weekend.

I've also been making delicious food, but unfortunately, my camera is never around when this happen. Cooking for friends is fun, as well as the partaking of wine and beer.

Thursday, April 8, 2010

Hi, hi. Back after a long hiatus. Was kick in the butt by work and friends. Also, for the past month or so, it's been really cold. I mean, SNOW was falling at 1600 ft elevation. Crazy. This was a really fun day -- I had a great time dressing up in a purple monochromatic theme and it just felt oh-so romantic. Luckily, there was no breeze that day. Haha.

ain't nothin

A bit more sunny today -- enough to wear sunglasses, but not opened-toe shoes. Regardless, the weather didn't make me feel all 'dress' up and stuff -- so comfort took precedence. Forever 21 having an amazing sale today: 10% of any $40 purchases; enter ILOVE21 code.

I'm heading to OC for Valentine Day/Lunar New Year weekend. I'm super-excited. I will not buy anything. I will not buy anything. I will not buy anything... until my next paycheck. Haha.

rainy day

Cold and rainy day; decided to work at home instead. Well, no -- that decision wasn't made for me. I went to work, only to find that no one else did. So went to Border's instead. Order vanilla latte, scone, and a dose of warmth.

At night, I didn't feel very 'dinner entree' so made appetizers instead. With beer. Hell yeah

Bruschetta on french bread (probably 4-5 servings, but I ate it all and I'm a garbage disposer at heart)

  • 2 gloves of minced garlic
  • 1.5 tbsp minced shallot
  • 2 roma tomatoes, diced
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt + 1 tsp pepper
  • slices of 3/4 inch cut french loaf (or italian bread is fine)
  • Parmesan and/or mozzarella cheese, grated.

>>Preheat broiler
>>Mixed garlic, shallot, tomatoes, basil, olive oil, vinegar, oregano, S&P in a large bowl. Chilled for 10 minutes.
>>brush some EVOO onto sliced bread; put in broiler for 1-2 mins until golden
>>Take out bread; add equal amount of tomato mixture on each. Top with cheese of your choice.
>> Put in broiler for 5 mins. Serve immediately.

Bon appetite!

Style is Style

I don't know who this girl is, but she proves that just cuz you're "big" doesn't mean you can't be stylish. Vogue should take a lesson from her. Her smile... always a DO! Her style... definite DO!

Short post for today; I'm working on a deadline for myelsie.org

Also filing my taxes. Yay!

apparently today was superbowl?

Anyway, I also bought this awesome new item -- will post super-awesome item (perhaps my most precious clothing to date -- other than my Burberry tweed coat) when I get an awesome chance to wear it. V-Day perhaps?

Thursday, February 4, 2010

I am so over the 'homeless chic' looks started by ne'er-do-well with the likes of Mary Kate Olsen and the blogosphere. I never attempted the look, but I imagined I would look absolutely ridiculous with only leggings as pants and tons of sweaters, scarfs, and gigantic fur coat. The whole... 'broccoli stick' look just doesn't scream appealing or fashionable to me. Sorry! I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who rocked it, but I have yet to see a homeless chic femme y homme.

And it's not practical! I have worn tights before. Black tights are my to-go for dresses and short skirts.. in 50s and 60s degree F weather! But the low 50s, I'm most certain that tights, no matter if they're made of wool or polyester, will not keep my legs warm. A light gust will send shivers to me timbers.

i.e.:
Hi, I'm cold and I'm trying very hard to ignore the sharp pains in my thighs

Too much going on. Too many trends at the same time. And it's impractical. Whatever. I'm a hater. I know. Do you wanna know what I wear on cold, rainy day weather? Perhaps it's not as trendy, but it's practical and I don't know, a bit stylish in an Old-Grandma sort of way.

LOOK MA! I'm cookin'!

Rainy and dreary today -- which funny enough, motivated me to cook. I'm definitely a novice to the whole "being in the kitchen" bit, but I find cooking to be relaxing (when the sauce is just simmering and not boiling over or the chicken is baking and not burnt). There's a whole new chemistry to cooking I haven't ever thought about before. Who knew making a grill cheese sandwich required so much science??

Tonight, I made "Dee's Shrimp" -- it's w/ shrimp (duh) saute in green onions and simmers in a nice, light cream sauce of tomatoes and mushroom. Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a cajun-feel.

  • 1 lb of peeled and deveined shrimp
  • 1.5 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup green onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup of white wine (use sherry for substitute)
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp basil (dry or fresh)
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 pinch of cayenne pepper
  • salt and pepper to taste
>Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in shrimp, garlic and green onion for about 5 mins, until shrimp is not longer translucent.
>Plate and set shrimp aside
>Pour in cream, tomatoes, basil, mushroom, and cayenne pepper.
>Bring to simmer and reduce heat, for about 10 minutes, until the cream evenly coat the back of your spoon.
>Stir in shrimp. Season with salt and pepper. Serve immediately

Bon appetite!

Out of the day post tomorrow.

In other news, my Person and I made a pack to eat healthier and start exercising more. I'm kinda sick of being the only out of shape person in northern california. I don't want them stinkin' hippies to outhike me!

a new day

Shopping for those on a budget or those-who-don't-want-to-spend-ass-loads-of-money-on-ordinary-things: never ever ever buy retail price. I mean, that's a given thought yeah, but when I was working a short stint in a retail store some moons ago, I was completely surprised by the amount of 'full retail price' purchases. Seriously? Ladies, save your money. Get those pants when they're on sale. It ain't worth the retail price. Get everything on sale. Even online purchases and then you know what -- wait for those sale items to even go further on sales.

A small, first appropriate outfit of my typical wear. 2 parts preppy, 3 parts lazy, and 12 parts cold weather.

Today

This weekend was amazingly fun -- hanged with friends (and I may truly called them friends) and spent all of Sunday recuperating. I gotten to know people that I dismissed too quickly from the beginning and laughed at human antics all the same time. I realized I'm also out of shape and had to be left behind during a rigorous, elevated hike in Mendocino County. I also appreciate the fact that T-mobile have AMAAZING coverage in a rural area like a forest where I could mediate on nature and then gossips about it with friends from the East Coast.

I partied too hard and too quickly, and realized I sucked at 'apples to apples' but did surprisingly well at Beer Pong. I also received my camera in the mail and can't wait to take photobooth outfits of the day to show to... myself. Ha.

For an amaaazing quick hang-over treat (or really, anytime you feel hungry and are busy) -- follow this recipe. Today, I made spinach dip.

  • 10 oz (1 pkge) of frozen spinach (chopped and drained) or use about 1/2 lb of fresh spinach like I did
  • 1 can (5 oz) water chestnuts, chopped
  • 1 envelope of Korr's vegetable soup mix
  • 1 container (16 oz) sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • green onion (1/2 cup or so)
mix everything together in a bowl. it's super important to make sure that you drained your spinach well. Refridgerate for 2+ hours (the longer the better). Served with bread or tortilla chips.
